Wednesday Oct 09, 2024
Wednesday Oct 09, 2024
What does being a High Functioning Adult with ADHD actually mean? It certainly doesn't always feel like I'm high functioning, or even functioning at all.
Join me as I explore my personal journey with a late ADHD diagnosis, discussing the signs I missed throughout my life and the challenges and triumphs that come with being a 'high functioning' adult with ADHD. From impulsive decisions to financial struggles, let's delve into the impact ADHD has had and how I've managed to overcome the guilt and shame associated with it.
Share your thoughts on whether 'high functioning' is just a label or a testament to our resilience.

Ep 133 - Things I QUIT After Turning 50
Wednesday Sep 18, 2024
Wednesday Sep 18, 2024
When I was in my 30s I thought 50 was ancient and it seemed such a long way away, In my 20s I thought I had life all figured out and the 'older generation' knew nothing, I'm 58 now and boy how wrong I was. My 50s have been my favourite decade because I've been able to simplify my life and quit some things that just weren't serving me anymore. So in this episode I'm sharing some of the things I've quit since turning 50. Some are funny, some practical some quite serious but they've all helped me to feel much happier in my 50s than any other time in my life.

There's a wave of Gen X women being late diagnosed with ADHD - and it's causing a bit of a stir! Many of these women are making the decision to change direction in later life and, as a Gen X Late Diagnosed ADHDer who redesigned my own life at the age of 52, I can tell you it's the best thing I ever did.
In this episode of the Generation Exceptional Podcast I'm chatting with ADHD career coach and late diagnosed ADHDer Rachel Gaddis all about how we can reframe some of the limiting beliefs that stop us living the next chapter in alignment with what's actually important to us.
Rachel is a career transition coach who focuses on helping ADHD women over 40, particularly women who’ve been recently diagnosed. As a career transition coach who was diagnosed with inattentive-type ADHD at age 44, she understands firsthand the profound impact such a diagnosis can have on one’s professional and personal life. Using co-active coaching methodology, Rachel assists clients in aligning their professional paths with their core values and innate strengths. Her approach is profoundly influenced by her personal experience of a late ADHD diagnosis, overcoming breast cancer, embracing her 50s, and executing a major career shift. Rachel's extensive background in career research, encompassing countless articles, books, and assessments, has enabled her to turn her personal journey into a powerful tool for guiding others. She offers empathetic and strategic coaching, helping mid-career professionals, especially women, to embrace change and craft careers that offer genuine fulfilment and purpose.

Wednesday Aug 14, 2024
In this podcast I’m calling out some popular business advice that just doesn’t work for my ADHD brain. You’ve probably heard these so-called “must-dos” from countless business gurus, but I want to share with you why they might be doing more harm than good. I’ll break down the five business norms that I've ditched and why you should consider doing the same, especially if you’re an entrepreneur with ADHD or just tired of one-size-fits-all advice.
Timestamps:
- 00:00 - Introducing the 5 BS Business Norms
- 00:54 - The Work-Life Balance Myth: Why the traditional idea of work-life balance is a setup for failure.
- 06:42 - The Miracle Morning: How rigid routines like this don't align with an ADHD mind.
- 08:50 - Dress for Success: Why focusing on what you wear might be overrated.
- 12:00 - 121 Business Follow-ups: Why constant networking and follow-ups can be overwhelming and unproductive.
- 15:40 - The Busyness Myth: Why being busy doesn’t equal being productive.

Here's an edited version (without all the chit chat and waffle) where I share my experience of changing direction in my 50s and what I'd do differently if I did it again.
